I thought that perhaps for my first venture in competitive running that I should go off and do a fell race and see for myself just what the fuss is all about so I entered the "Issac Hunt 2".....apparently named after a local Conservative Councilor. The start and finish was at the Municipal Gardens in Poulton Le Fylde and the summit cairn of the hill we were to ascend "Kneeknocker Tor " could be clearely observed from the start line. The race itself was not as unpleasant an experience as  I has expected but not one I am anxious to repeat in the near future. The runners seemed a convivial bunch and one of them even spoke to me enquiring after the origin of my footwear.Strange chap though never heard of Woolies ! Lots of men with beards...lots of women with beards which I found disconserting at first but strangely and to my disgust after a while I found it somehow alluring, one lady in particular had a nice ginger bush which I found it difficult to divert my eyes away from (get yourself some therapy Bates before its too late) The entry fee was only £12.50 which included a pre/post race meal of tripe and pigs trotters. You could choose to eat this meal before or after the race so I chose the former. This strategy paid of as it enabled me to call upon a burst of energy to beat a fellow competitor in a sprint finish (nice chap by the name of Douglas Bader) Whilst not being able to secure a prize for myself the prize list appeared to be extensive the winner coming away with a 1 lb box of Liqoirice Pontefract Cakes and a roll of longer, stronger, softer, triple absorbant toilet roll. Apparently last year the winner only got the pontefract cakes but after complaints from family, friends and neighbours the organisers thought that the addition of the Andrex would be a nice gesture. Next week I will be off to do a road race.....any advice

Now keep this quiet!

I know the lady you've seen at the fell race and I've got some good news for you (your dear mother permitting of course, and assuming you're single) she runs for Rossendale Harriers and her name is Mary Hinge. She's a good friend of Betty Swallocks from Clayton, She's a bit coy at times but you might coax a smile out of her. She's into this web dating scene and insists on attracting suitors 'on line' all a bit alien to me. Apparently she frequents this forum, but due to her coyness goes by the nom de plume 38DD.

Not keen to put a bid in myself, ( happily married and old and decrepit anyway ) but you may find some competition should you pursue your dream.

You may have to joust for her though. The word is the competition is fierce in certain quarters.

Good luck!

I've heard that 38DD is a bit of a stunner, but I've only got eyes for the lovely Divine, not really a boob man myself Wink  Wink
