Is 26.2 worth a mention ?Just wanted to make an observation. Anyone noticed how the twice weekly pre-training eulogies tend to involve a distinct lack of tarmac?
Last night was an example. Steve Dux rightly praised some of the past weeks performances especially by the juniors and mentioned Davina's 3 mile birthday bash which was an excellent event, and singled some of the junior competitors out for special mention. Great stuff ! positive reinforcement and all that. Some of the senior fell runners were mentioned in despatches too and again some noteworthy performances.
And ............... ' I think that's about it' .
Well not quite.
Whilst Rod maintained a very dignified silence last night, in his position, I'd be somewhat miffed, if I was him. Didn't notice Martin there.
The aforementioned members have spent the last 3 months knocking in 50 plus miles per week, training for their chosen event, which was a road marathon and both achieved a very creditable result. The thing is, being a road event, it got overlooked.
It's my considered opinion that if it involves tarmac it doesn't count. Make a point of listening in future. See where the emphasis lies. If it an't got hills and mud, it doesn't count.
No apologies for the controversial content!

Why not speak to dux before his pep talk, if the guy don,t know about it, he ain't going to say anything. I'v pointed out a few noteworthy performances from our runners to him from time to time. Same with the Free Press write ups , dont be shy Hugh.

I'm not here to slag anyone off but I e mailed Dux about my result on Monday. I didn't mention it to him last night and he didn't bring it up with me prior to the usual announcements. I did not feel it my place to start blowing my own trumpet so let it ride. Did he not think a 3.18 was worthy of mention, did he forget or did he not read his e mithers? I don't know.
I think Hughs gripe goes much deeper and is that as predominantly road runners we are so often seen as the club's poor relations, particularly as soon as the lighter nights arrive. But it applies just as much throughout the rest of the year.
I will off the top of my head mention, the Calderdale Way Relay when Hugh himself, despite being Mr Reliable was left out of the team for slower runners who then didn't even run. As a pair we went on to put in a creditable run in the Mary Towneley Loop, beating runners on our leg who many would deem stronger and more proficient on the fells. Then there was the trophy presentation night when every trophy was presented except, er, the road championship trophy. This was presumably retrieved from someone's sideboard or a cupboard in time for the following week's pre-run gathering and duly presented to John Lavelle.
There was another incident which resulted in the non-appearance of some members at a major event but that is best forgotten.
And yet myself and Hugh and other confirmed roadies are some of the most reliable and loyal members the club has. We will always, circumstances (and selection) permitting turn out for the club in relays and are there paying our £1.50 pretty much every Tuesday and Thursday.
We don't ask for much in return, although the T shirt was nice last week, all we do ask is that we get a bit of recognition for our efforts, which may be the efforts of a couple of guys pushing 50 years of age but they are the best we can offer given constraints of age and everything else that life throws at us.

I run because i love it.
Don't need any recognition to feel wanted.
Go and enjoy your running whether its on tarmac or fell.
Chill.

P.S.
I've put three posts about three fell races on this forum, with no replies.
I've been in tears and can't take anymore.
Will someone please speak to me.
I feel like jacking it all in.
Joking Joking.
Well done to Rod and Martin.

I'm not really looking for personal recognition, Stan. The thing is if mention is made at the pre-run nuptials of fell race performances then mention should also be made of other disciplines.
I agree it's not worth getting upset about but I thought I would have my say, after all that's what the forum is for.

I was gonna mention the lack of response about the 3 peaks, i watched the race and it looked brill, not sure if the event is usually this well organised due to this year being an english champs race, but the atmosphere was fantastic an i'll def try an do it next year??

All this sounds like the Rossendale Harriers of old.
Some things never change.

I've been running over 30 years and recognition has been scarce. It doesn't bother me but maybe I should have said RESPECT rather than recognition.

I didn't realise anything happened before a club night other than everyone gathering in the hall waiting to leave for their runs!
This is all I normally see cos I'm usually late! I've been missing more sessions than I'd like recently as I haven't been getting home from work till 7 - 7.30. I hope to make it to the club more often over the next few weeks, fingers crossed...
Personally, I wanted to do a marathon to force myself to get fitter and earn the right to wear my Rossy top with pride etc etc etc

Without wanting to sound patronising, Martin, you have done superbly well over the last couple of years or so. And, speaking as a fellow Scot (don't let the accentfool you), it's great to run with my very own Rob Roy / Braveheart

Yeah, and why the "Plod" if you can do 3.18? Are you in the polis? (If so, I promise I was only joking in my last post)

Hmm! I promise to try harder next time. It's easier to run faster when you know you're on telly, though

Somebody has to be capable of running after the bad guys. Not as easy these days when weighed down with body armour, batons, handcuffs and god knows what else.
And, I have to be careful in case Joe Scroat, trips, hurts himself and then sues for breach of his yuman rights
